私たちのノルウェーの山旅が2017年3月5日発売のSay Yes To Adventure Vol.8という雑誌に掲載されました。いろいろな人のいろいろなアドベンチャーが載った、とても冒険心をかきたてられる写真紀行雑誌です。利益の一部はケニアでの自然保護活動に役立てられます。この雑誌は売り切れになってしまいましたが、編集長のホリーさんのご厚意でインターネット上で無料で読めるようになっています。ちょっと冒険をしてみたくなったら、見ていただけると嬉しいです。

“Say Yes To Adventure” Magazine vol.8 features our tramping adventure story in Norway. Thanks Hollie, the editor of the magazine, for her hard work to edit and giving the article final professional touch. It shares people’s amazing adventures and inspire others to create their own, as well as partners with conservation organisations in Kenya to support private wildlife reserves. The magazine, on sale on March 5th 2017, including back volumes is available for free download on the website.

2021年2月からニュージーランド政府観光局日本支局による旅行業界向けウェビナー「Kiwi Connection Japan」のパネリストとして、地元クイーンズタウン観光局と協力してクイーンズタウン周辺の最新情報を提供しています。

Since February 2021, I have been a speaker on “Kiwi Connection Japan” webinar sessions that Tourism New Zealand Japan organises for Japanese travel agents. The lectures aim to keep New Zealand connected with the agents and to educate new staff who don’t have a chance to visit Aotearoa during/after the pandemic. Our topics include the latest information in and around Queenstown, supported by Destination Queesntown.

ウェリントンで開催されたカラポティ・クラシックというマウンテンバイクの50kmクロカンレースに2017年2月に出場してきました。このレースは1986年から始まったニュージーランドで一番古いマウンテンバイクレース。川の渡渉から始まり、玉石が転がるダウンヒル、バイクを担がないと登れない上り坂、激走シングルトラック、泥ドロなアップヒルなどなどニュージーランドならではの遊び心いっぱいのレース、とても楽しかったです。グローブを忘れたときにはどうしようかと焦ったけど、無事に走りきって満足です。今回のレースはクライストチャーチのChill Studioさんから参加エントリーを提供してもらい、翌年の大会前に記事になりました。この記事はカラポティ・クラシックのウェブページにも掲載されています（左のRide Reviewsの一番下にあります）。

The 2017 Karapoti Classic 50km – 4:24:08. The NZ’s longest running MTB XC race is tougher and muddier than I thought. Le Mans-style start, so many stream crossings, rocky & boulderly descent, bike-carry uphills and epic roller-coaster downhills! Although I was upset when I found I left my cycle gloves behind, love it and definitely will come back in future. Thanks, Rehana and Stu from Chill Studio, to give me an opportunity to ride and experience awesome kiwi style event! 「グリーンストーン・ケープルス・トラック・ガイド（2022）ニュージーランド政府自然保護省」（英語）：グリーンストーン・ケープルス・トラックの公式ガイド冊子に写真が掲載されました。

「ニュージーランド・サザンアルプスの植物（2020）リチャード・ライアル」（日本語）：日本とニュージーランド、両国の植物生態学・森林科学を知る専門家として、日本語専門用語のネイティブチェックをしました。

「アーサーズパス国立公園登攀ガイドブック（2020）グラハム・ケイツ、NZ山岳会出版」（英語）：クレーギーバーン山脈でのバックカントリースキーツアーの写真掲載。

「Lovely Green New Zealand – 未来の国を旅するガイドブック（2018）ダイヤモンド・ビッグ社」（日本語）：クイーンズタウン周辺のエコビレッジ等の情報提供をしました。

「ルートバーン・トラック・ガイド（2017）ニュージーランド政府自然保護省」（英語）：ルートバーン・トラックの山小屋に宿泊するハイカーに配布されるガイド冊子に写真が掲載されました。

「ミルフォードトラック・ルートバーントラック・グランドトラバース　ナビゲーターマップ（2015）及び山小屋備え付けの日本語説明本（2018）アルティメイトハイクス社」（日本語）：ガイド付き山小屋泊まりハイキングで配布される日本語版の地図冊子の翻訳、及び各山小屋に備え付けられている翌日の行程を説明した冊子等の日本語版作成をしました。

2006年7月に出版された河川流域の土砂移動に関する専門書籍「流域学事典 (2006：共著、新谷融・黒木幹男編著）」。河川流域の地形変動をその基本的な仕組みから説明し、水源である上流の山地から河谷、平野を経て海岸まで、河川と土砂がどのように人間活動と関わっているかを、多数の図版や写真を用いて体系的かつ簡潔に叙述した流域事典。若手技術者および行政関係者向けにその基本を解説し、北海道大学図書刊行会から共著で出版しました。売れ行きが好調で第二版が増刷され、この手の学術本としてはベストセラーになっています。

I’m not only a hiking guide but also I have got some academic articles from my previous work – forestry and erosion control. This Ryuiki-gaku-jiten (The Catchment Analysis Dictionary: published in 2006) is a great technical guidebook for a young engineer or a public servant who is passionate about preventing flooding/debris flow/erosion/landslide. I am a co-auther of this book which was edited by Proffeser Tohru Araya and Assosiate Proffesor Mikio Kuroki. Published by Hokkaido University Press. Only available in Japanese.

ウェブサイトを一新するにあたって、2006年以前の研究業績を掲載し直すか考えましたが、このご時世は何が役立つか分からないので、掲載することにしました。写真は、パーマストンノースのマッセイ大学からギスボーンにドライブするときにいつも立ち寄っていたワイプクラウのデイリー（コンビニ）です。
I wasn’t sure whether I’d have kept my academic paper list on the new website or not. I have decided to keep those on the website as now we are entering into the new normal and I should take all possibilities or opportunities given! Me in the photo didn’t know what he will see in 20 years later… He just enjoyed having ice cream and chatting with friends at brief stop in Waipukurau, Hawkes Bay, on our way from Massey University, Palmerston North, to the research site in the East Coast Region.
